As per the meteorologists, the rain recorded last 5 days is 500% more than normal!

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that there are prospects for light to moderate rain in the city for the next 2 days!

There may not be spells of heavy rains as experienced recently -  at least till next week!

However, a low-pressure zone is forming over South Andaman today (Saturday, 13th November) which is likely to intensify into a deep depression zone.

S. Balachandran, DDG, IMD informed that Tamil Nadu registered 10 cm rainfall between 7th & 12th November against the normal 4 cm! This is 142% in excess, Chennai Metro City has recorded 45 cm as against an average of 8 cm, which is 491% surplus.

He said that in the next 2 days, Chennai Metro City and its suburbs will receive light to medium rain.

However, IMD has forecast heavy rains in the other parts of the state – including the neighbouring Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur and Chengalpattu today & tomorrow.

The developing low-pressure zone over south Andaman may intensify and prevail over the east-central and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal and will drift towards the northwest.

However, Chennai can relax a bit now for the next few days.

The private weather forecaster Skynet Weather also confirmed the same –it may approach Andhra Pradesh. Tamil Nadu is likely to be spared from this cyclone’s fury.
