Echo of persistent heavy rains: Vegetable prices shoot up (double)!

Due to the persistent heavy rains, the price of tomatoes has crossed Rs. 100/- per kg in Chennai Metro City!

  • Before the onset of the monsoon rainy season, the tomato was being sold at Rs. 45/- per kg. Now, it has gone up more than double!
  • Similarly, before the onset of the monsoon rainy season, the price of onion was Rs. 40/- per kg. Now, it is sold at Rs. 50/- per kg!
  • Carrot, which sold at Rs. 50/- per kg, is now priced at Rs. 70/- per kg!
  • Price of beans has gone up from Rs. 30/- per kg to Rs. 50/- per kg.
  • Flat beans (Avaraikkaai) costs Rs. 75/- from Rs. 40/- per kg!
  • Potato price has gone up from Rs. 25/- per kg to Rs. 35/- per kg.
