T Nagar to get multi-level car parking soon

The Tamil Nadu State Government has approved a proposal submitted by the Chennai Corporation to build an automatic multi storey parking lot near Panagal Park. The facility will come up at the cost of Rs. 25 crores. The Government has sanctioned Rs. 5 crores for the project from the Tamil Nadu Infrastructure Development Fund.
The parking lot will come up on Bashyam Road, off Panagal Park. It will be able to house 500 cars and 900 motorcycles at a time.’ Entries and exits were suggested on G. N. Chetty Road, Doraisamy Road and Venkatnarayana Road. This would have helped keep traffic at the entry and exit points smooth. However, that proposal was changed by the Corporation due to several civic difficulties… The design for the facility would be prepared by the contractor. The Corporation will call for bids shortly, and the tendering process is likely to take six months. Construction will take 18-24 months’, said an official.
