State board syllabus to be reduced in Tamil Nadu schools, announcement to be made soon

Posted on: 27/Jul/2021 9:11:18 AM
Still there is no clarity when the schools would reopen in Chennai and in Tamil Nadu!!

The second Coronavirus infection wave has been coming down now in Chennai and in TN and there is a threat of the third wave also. With schools remaining closed, the school students have been facing lots of stress in their online mode of learning now.

In this scenario, the school education department is thinking about reducing the syllabus for the students belonging to the state board in TN for the academic year 2021-22.

It must be remembered that in the previous academic year the syllabus was reduced by 40% to help the school students.  Mr. Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, school education minister, hinted that the school syllabus would be reduced in this academic year also. The announcement regarding this would be out soon.

In view of continuation of online classes due to shut down of schools, CBSE just recently retained a 30% syllabus reduction for students of classes 9 to 12 for the academic year 2021-22.Point is that last year the school education department had made up to 40% syllabus optional for board examination students. The school education minister was of the view that in just 7 months the students won’t be able to prepare for the full syllabus for the board exams.

The minister later threw light on various factors like students learning through online mode plus uncertainty in the school reopening etc. It is worthy to mention that the minister was busy inaugurating a programme for the basic computer functional training for the government school teachers. From Monday to Friday, computer basics training would be given to as many as432 resource persons. For conducting online classes in Zoom and Google Meet, more than 2.1laks teachers would be given training in batches. Truth is that the learning deficit due to online learning is a worrying factor now. Many apps are being developed now and video lessons are prepared and Kalvi TV channel must only be the only medium for instruction. The important piece of information is that the teachers are getting equipped to conduct lessons and assessment online.
