Now in Chennai, the suburban train services have increased to help passengers

During the lockdown from Monday, 7th June onwards, the TN government has announced more relaxations. The news now is that the Chennai division of Southern Railways or SR have increased the number of daily workmen suburban specials from 208 to 279. This has caught the attention of many. By this move, social distancing could be maintained by the passengers inside the trains.
It was pointed out by a statement from the railways that a total of 48 pairs of trains are being operated in Chennai to Avadi/Tiruvallur/ Arakkonam/Tiruttani section. It is known to us that on Chennai-Sullurpettai/Gummidipoondi route 24 pairs of trains are being operated.
The railways have mentioned that the number of services from Chennai Beach- Velachery Chennai Beach- Tambaram/Chengalpattu/Tirumalpur sections have increased to 34/17 pairs and 88/44 pairs respectively. To facilitate the transport of commuters between Pattabiram and Pattabiram Military Siding E Depot, 12 shuttle services are also operated.
The staffs of central and state government departments, public sector undertakings, staff of Madras High Court judicial bodies and quasi judicial bodies like lawyers, travel and logistics organisation staffs of Chennai Port trust, Kamarajar Port Trust, staff of e-commerce companies etc would be able to travel in the workmen specials. This was according to the railways.
