Few days back, certain zones belonging to the GCC had more than 5000 active cases and now these zones have less than 2500 active cases. This has brought huge relief now. The TPR or test positivity rate in Chennai has come down below 6percent now and that is superb.

On Saturday, 5th June 2021, the number of active cases in Chennai was 24290.This was according to data from the GCC. It must be noted that this 24290 was 50% of the total active cases that were reported on 22nd of May. There were as many as 49236 active Coronavirus cases in Chennai city on 22nd May 2021. Truth is that on that day zones like Ambattur and Anna Nagar had more than 5000 active cases. Ambattur zone had as many as 5139 active cases and Anna Nagar zone had 5182 active cases.

Zones like Kodambakkm, Teynampet and Adyar had more than 4000 active cases each. These zones (except Adyar zone) in the central region had less than 2500 active cases on Sunday, 6th June 2021. At 2320, Kodambakkam zone had the highest number of active Coivid-19 cases out of the total of 15 GCC zones. Point is that zones like Anna Nagar, Valasaravakkam, Teynampet and Adyar had 2258 active cases, 2154 active cases, 2076 active cases and 2093 active cases respectively.

Now, there are just 1777 active cases in Ambattur zone that had more than 5000 active cases in the past. Information that has come out is that out of the total cases that were reported in Chennai since the outbreak just 5percrnt are active cases now. Chennai city has got a superb recovery rate of around 94%.

Out of 30,118 total samples tested for Covid-19 infection in Chennai just 1789 samples tested positive on Saturday, 5th June. This corresponds to a positivity rate of 5.9percent in Chennai. The amazing piece of information is that this 5.9% on Saturday was the lowest positivity rate ever since the second infection wave began in Chennai.

It is known that the civic body decided to loan pulse oxymeters for those in Chennai under the home quarantine to check their oxygen saturation levels. This is due to the fact that the majority of active cases now are under home isolation.

It was brought out by a statement from the Chennai Corporation that those under home isolation must check their oxygen saturation levels 2 times per day and share this information with FOCUS volunteers. The statement also mentioned that once when the people get recovered the pulse oximeters must be returned back. For donating pulse oximeters and various other devices to the Chennai Corporation, the civic body has invited organisations. It is revealed that those who are interested could contact the number 94983 46492.
