The battle against the Coronavirus infection pandemic is far from over!! Chennai is now getting ready to tackle the third Covid 19 infection wave whenever or if it comes in the future!!

A task force along with vaccination strategy is being readied by the GCC now for this purpose of handling the third wave.

The Chennai residents would have spent sleepless nights in the middle of the month of May when the fresh daily Coronavirus cases reached 7500. At present, Chennai is witnessing less than 2000 fresh cases. It was later brought out by some senior officers of GCC that the fight against the pandemic hasn’t yet finished. The need to have a team to tackle future such types of infection waves is essential.

It was explained by Mr. Gagandeep Singh Bedi, Chennai Corporation commissioner that a plane was being readied in the background to tackle possible third wave even when GCC was busy fighting the second Covid-19 infection wave. Task force would be announced soon as a part of the prevention plan. Vaccination strategy plus various other preventive mechanisms are being worked out now.

In both first as well as in the second infection wave, zones such as Ambattur, Anna Nagar, Teynapet, Adyar and Kodambakkam have remained hotspots. This was as per the data of daily positive cases published by GCC. It must not be forgotten that Ambattur and Anna Nagar touched an all time high with more than 5000 cases in the second wave. On 20th May, Anna Nagar zone had as many as 5270 cases are known.

The 5 hotspot zones in Chennai were densely populated and have more than 43% or 34lakhs of population of the city with 78 lakhs population. This was highlighted by a senior officer belonging to the health department. These 5 zones had many commercial activities is well known.

It has been brought out now by the senior officer that as these zones had high commercial activities there would be more floating population in these zones. Truth is that this floating population would be responsible for the spreading of the Covid-19 infection faster.
