Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC has been doing many for the benefit of the residents to help them to overcome Coronavirus infection is a well known fact.

From 22nd of May 2021, GCC launched special camps for the sake of vaccinating those with disabilities and till now around 1500 differently able persons got vaccinated for Coronavirus infection in Chennai.

Persons in the age group 18 to 44 have been getting vaccination shots in these special camps. It is superb to mention here that the door-to-door vaccination process has been of huge help for those who are immobile. This was mentioned by differently able rights activists.

Mr. S. Namburajan, general secretary, TN Association for the Rights of All Types of Differently Able and Caregivers, spoke about how many differently able persons are coming forward to get themselves vaccinated. Immobile persons or bedridden persons are also getting benefited now by the GCC‘s door-to-door vaccination. Now, it is possible to get registered and consult the doctors through a helpline round the clock.

The shortage of vaccines in the rural places in TN has been an issue as many differently able persons were unable to get themselves vaccinated. Mr. Namburajan pointed out that the door-to-door vaccination must also be implemented in the districts of TN to help those who are immobile.

It was revealed by a resident belonging to Perambur that he used the GCC helpline to get registered because he was unable to visit the vaccination camp due to his physical issues. He was happy that the volunteers checked on his health after he got vaccinated. Speciality vaccination camps could be set up (by Corporation and Welfare of the Differently Able Department) in the localities in Chennai and for that people with physical issues can call helpline and register for vaccinations.

Information collected is that those persons with hearing impairment could make use of WhatApp video calling process for getting vaccination. Sign language could be used by them to fix appointments. Registrations were segregated based on zones to set up camps and this was as per Mr. Vishu Mahajan, Deputy Commissioner, Revenue and Finance, GCC. He added that those who needed vaccination at their doorsteps could register through the helpline. He threw light on how till now 1500 persons with physical disabilities have been given vaccinations. He concluded that in door-to-door vaccination there must be 30 minutes of observation to know whether the person who got vaccinated was normal or not.
