A new high level monitoring committee would be constituted and the fees issues in the private schools in TN would be looked into. This has been decided by the government of TN now.

Fees collected by various self-financing schools in TN are monitored by TN Private Schools Fee Determination Committee. It is now said that this committee is authorised to recommend to the government to penalise the schools that collect more fees in violation of the rules.

Many parents have been complaining of financial loss due to the lockdown for Covid-19 pandemic since March 2020 onwards. The private schools were unable to collect fees from these parents.

The private schools moved to court to sort out this issue. Information collected is that the HC or Madras has allowed self financing institutions in TN to collect 35% of annual fee for the academic year 2020-21 and remaining amount through instalments.

It was later brought to light by a senior officer from the school education department that there were complaints of certain private schools harassing the parents to pay more than prescribed by the HC.

The new committee would have academicians, representatives of PTA, school management, education officer,  to look into the problem immediately.
