Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC has been trying its very best to help the residents of Chennai in this Coronavirus pandemic. Latest news is that GCC has launched as many as 250 Covid-19 special ambulances for the 15 zones in the Chennai city.

Yesterday, the popular Ripon Buildings in Chennai was buzzing with activities as the Municipal Administration minister Mr. K.N. Nehru launched the new project. The new Chennai corporation commissioner Mr. Gagandeep Singh Bedi was also present at that time along with some senior officials. The new GCC commissioner Mr. Bedi took charge on Sunday and this Covid-19 special ambulance is a part of the initiatives taken by him and other IAS officers.

The important piece of information here is that the new ambulances were launched by modifying taxis of private operators with drivers insulated from the passengers. It must be taken into account that the drivers would be given vaccination to reduce the risk of them getting Covid-19 infection.

At each of the 15GCC zones, these special ambulances would be stationed and it is revealed that the zonal officers would send the ambulances to the resident’s houses after they test positive for the infection. For availing the services of these special ambulances, the Chennai residents would soon receive details about the helpline numbers etc. The ambulances would be transporting patients to screening centres, hospitals or Covid Care Centres.

Depending upon the request from the control room in Ripon Buildings, transportation of the patients in the ambulances would be carried out by volunteers, sanitary inspectors and sanitary officers.
