Only essential staffs can travel in the suburban trains in Chennai from today onwards

From Thursday, 6th May till 20th May, the Chennai suburban trains would be available exclusively for the use of railway staff plus for the essential services staffs like health, law and order, sanitation workers etc authorised by the government and for the workers belonging to the corporation. This was announced by the Southern Railways or SR. Suburban trains along with MTC buses and metro trains form the three major transport modes in Chennai.
A release from the SR had mentioned that staff of all central and state government departments, Madras HC judicial bodies and quasi-judicial bodies including lawyers, travel and logistics organisations (like Chennai Port Trust and Kamarajar Port Trust), e-commerce companies on duty, print and electronic media, nationalised private and cooperative banks and private security agencies have been asked to have photo ID issued by their organisations to travel in the suburban trains.
It must be noted that the general permission that was issued for the women to travel in the suburban trains throughout the day has been cancelled. Information is that the objective of limiting the passengers was not to refuse the rights of any particular category but to ensure just 50% seat occupancy in the suburban trains. This was also mentioned in the release from the Southern Railways.
