Fever surveillance workers have been reemployed by the GCC and these workers have started their works in Chennai now. The reason for GCC reemploying these workers was because of the spike in the number of Coronavirus cases in the city.

It was brought out by the source belonging to the GCC that the civic body has estimated to deploy more than 6000 fever surveillance workers in the 15 zones of GCC. It is now said that these workers would also act as FOCUS volunteers or Friend of Covid citizens Under Surveillance. According to an officer of GCC the fever surveillance works would also stress the importance of getting vaccinated and create awareness.

To ramp up the vaccination drive, Mr G. Prakash, Chennai Corporation commissioner took part in the district task force meeting yesterday. In Chennai, over 6lakhs have got vaccinated till now with 4lakhs have taken Covishield vaccine and around 2 lakhs Covaxin.

Initially in Chennai, just 16 centres were giving vaccination but now it has been increased to 411 that included 2 private hospitals.  There are more than 10000 workers at the Koyambedu market complex but just 6000 workers took vaccination till now. Efforts have been going on to cover all the markets in Chennai like Kasimedu based fish market etc.
