In Koyambedu, there are chances of COVID outbreak again now

Chennai residents would not have forgotten the closure of Koyambedu Wholesale Market Complex or KWMC to contain Coronavirus pandemic.  Point is that this happened about 10 months back. The closure of this market made the lives of many vendors and public difficulties well known.

The business in this important market in Chennai has improved now and safety and hygiene measures are in place here.

According to a vendor, the safety and hygiene has improved and the business has become better. He added that there is now a chance about the next outbreak of Coronavirus infection in this market again. It was then brought to light by an officer belonging to the Chennai Corporation that the safety measures have been enforced with great success.

Important information is that the incoming trucks in this market are disinfected and those who enter the market are tested regularly. The market premises are cleaned frequently now. In this situation, another Covid-19 outbreak would not be possible. Truth is that those visiting the market have been flaunting the rules. The visitors do not wear face masks plus do not maintain social distancing etc.

The Corporation official was of the view that the measures taken to ensure the market is safe but the lax mindset of the public might lead to another Covid-19 outbreak here.

As per Mr. P. Sukumaran, treasurer, Koyambedu Wholesale Vegetable Market Association, it was clear that the market has been ensuring all the vendors follow the safety regulations that have been set by the officials. At each stall, there are facemasks plus hand sanitizers etc. He hinted about how the officials have been consulted for free vaccination for the vendors.

The vendors are now having huge fears about another Covid-19 outbreak here due to the careless attitude of the visitors. This might lead to the closure of this KWMC once again just like how it was shot down about 10 months back to contain the spread of Covid-19 infection. This was mentioned by a vendor. Mr. Sukumaran later assured that the Covid-19 outbreak would not happen again in the market due to stringent measures in place.
