Beginning from Tuesday 23rd February 2021, four peripheral areas of the Chennai city would get piped water supply after a long wait. It is learnt that some of the long pending schemes to provide better underground drainage systems in places like Ambattur and Avadi would be launched.

Inauguration of these schemes (that have been completed at an outlay of Rs 325.08 crores) would be inaugurated by the CM of Tamil Nadu. It must be noted that some amenities included long pending demands of the residents.

A decade back, Pallavaram water supply scheme was proposed to provide 27926 house connections in the municipality at a cost of Rs 130 crores. It was brought out that nearly 35.56 million litres of water daily or mld would be supplied to 2.63 lakh residents in the local body.

The superb piece of information is that households that are getting water once in 3 or 4 days would get water daily. The Chembarambakkam reservoir is one of the main sources of water supply is a known fact. The population of about 93,000 in the Pammal municipality would get benefited by the water supply. It is clear that CMWSSB would be supplting12.54 mld water to the people here. This would be carried out through a distribution pipeline running to a length of 115km.

Information is that 2 more areas Vadaperumbakkam and Theeyambakkam that were brought under CMA limits would get a piped water network at a cost of Rs 20 crores. These two areas with a population of 6600 spread over an area of 30 sq km would get 1.02 mld water supply. For this sake, 2 underground sumps and 2 overhead tanks have been built.  It is known that the underground sewage network has been a long pending demand for Ambattur residents. It is now said that the CM would inaugurate this scheme.
