Before the forthcoming elections, Kilambakkam bus terminus to open partially for public

Last year, the foundation stone was laid for the new bus terminus at Kilambakkam and now this mofussil bus terminus would open partially before the elections.
It must be noted that for the Assembly elections model code for conduct would come into force soon. Through a video-conferencing process, the bus terminus here would be opened by the end of February.
Information collected is that portion that caters to MTC buses would open now and a file has been sent to the government. It is known that this bus terminus has been built to cater to south bound buses and there are also plans to link it with metro link of airport stretch. Point is the first phase extension from Chennai airport to Kilambakkam is likely to be a 16km stretch along the GST Road. The sources have mentioned the feasibility study that has been completed and the stretch would be an elevated one. The truth is that the entire terminus would take atleast 5 to 6 months of time for completion of the works. Design based issues that were present have been taken care of by a committee.
It is now revealed that CMDA would be going for a new technology which would not only complete the work but also reduce the cost. This new technology would also make sure that the earlier design doesn’t undergo change. There are plans by the CMDA to change the construction methodology so that the elevation structures are being casted as pre-engineered structures incorporating structural steel members. This project was expected to be over before March 2021 but got delayed.
