Posted on: 01/Feb/2021 10:11:49 AM
The decrease in the number of Covid-19 infection cases has resulted in the more number of students of classes 10 and 12 attending the classes in Tamil Nadu. The attendance has improved by 90percent now in the schools in Tamil Nadu and this is superb.

From 19th of January onwards, the schools were reopened for the classes 10 and 12 in the state of Tamil Nadu. In many private schools also, the attendance was poor in the first week after the schools were reopened and 65 percent to 70 percent of the students reported for the classes. It was later pointed out by a senior official belonging to the school education department that in the feedback most of the parents were willing to send their kids to the schools but the number of students who came to the classes were less only.  It is revealed that from 19th to 23rd January only about 65% of government school students went to their classes. Fact is that many private schools in Tamil Nadu reported about 75% of attendance at that time.

The superb piece of information is that the attendance has increased gradually to 90 percent with 100 percent attendance reported in many schools of the southern districts in Tamil Nadu. In the cities like Chennai and in Coimbatore, many parents were scared to send their kids to the schools. The Coronavirus pandemic would be decreasing further and due to this reason the attendance would also increase gradually.

For ensuring the safety of the children at the schools, SOP has been followed by the government as well as by the government aided schools. This has boosted the confidence level of the parents. This was brought out by Mr. P.K. Illamaran, president of Tamil Nadu Teachers Association. It is now said that in the coming days even in the cities in Tamil Nadu 100% attendance would be reported in the schools.

The free noon meal scheme for the class 10 students would be extended for the students of classes 12 too and this might increase the attendance in the government schools in Tamil Nadu. Many private schools in Tamil Nadu have reported more than 95% attendance and this was stated by Mr. K.R. Nandhakumar, general secretary of Tamil Nadu Nursery, Primary, Matriculation, Higher secondary and CBSE Schools Association. He added that the fears of the parents have been reduced and requests have been made to the Tamil Nadu government for reopening for the students of classes 9 and 11 too as they also have board examinations.
