Dr Shantha - A Senior Oncologist and Chair Woman of Chennai Cancer Institute passes away

She has rendered great service for the cancer patients in Chennai for so many years. She was the chairwoman of Chennai Cancer institute. In the past, she had received the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award and Padma Vibhushan Award. Here, we are talking about Dr. Shantha, a highly famous oncologist of Chennai.
The news that has come out now is that Dr. Shantha had passed away yesterday and she was 94 years of age. She was born in the year 1927 is known. She played a huge role in the development of Cancer Institute in Chennai. Fact is that Dr. Shantha remained an inspirational person to many doctors and many healthcare providers. After finishing her MBBS at MMC Chennai, Dr Shantha joined the Cancer Institute founded by Dr Muthulakshmi Reddy.
From a cottage hospital to 12 bedded hospital and then to a cancer institute of repute, The Cancer institute developed under Dr. Shantha and under Dr. S. Krishnamurthy ( son of Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy)is well known to us. Dr. Swaminathan, senior epidemiologist spoke about how Dr Krishnamurthy (former chief) inspired Dr. Shantha in many ways. It was later mentioned by senior oncologist Dr. Arvind Krishnamurthy that an era has ended after the death of Dr. Shantha.
