An important place in Chennai is Moolakadai and a flyover here is grabbing the attention now.

The news is that CMRL has begun making alignment of one of the corridors of the Moolakadai flyover now. By this, pulling down a portion of this flyover would be prevented.

It is now revealed that out of 3 corridors in the phase-2 project- Madhavaram to Sipcot, Madhavaram to Siruseri and Light House to Poonamallee of a total of 118.9kms, the change has been planned for the stretch between Madhavaram and Sipcot. Information is that Moolakadai would be one of the few stations that would be constructed underground.

As per an official belonging to the CMRL, the alignment changes for just a few metres. This would lead to the change in the locations of Moolakadai and one or 2 stations just marginally only.

Survey conducted:

The official then spoke about the survey that has been going on now and hinted that it might be completed shortly. In the year 2011, the construction of this 4-lane flyover at the intersection of Madhavaram High Road and GNT Road started at a cost of Rs 49.11 crores. The shifting of sewer mains by MWD and due to issues in land acquisition, the work has been delayed. There are 18 deck slabs in this 613 m long flyover.

To make space during the construction of the line, CMRL had suggested the removal of 2 deck slabs from the centre of the flyover. This was according to some sources belonging to the Highways department. Truth is that there are plans to reconstruct them after completing the work. The department has turned it down because of the fact that the motorists would find it inconvenient at this important junction in Chennai. The information is the flyover would not get affected now as another option has been suggested.
