Prospects for rain with thunder in 4 districts!

The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has informed that there are prospects for rain with thunder in the next 24 hours in the 4 districts of Tirupur, Namakkal, Karur, and Dindigul.

The Director of the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre, Puviyarasan had a session with the press reporters and shared:

“With the changed in the speed and direction of the wind, there are prospects for rains in the next 24 hours in the districts of Tirupur, Namakkal, Karur, and Dindigul.

Further, there are prospects for medium rain in the southern coastal districts and interior districts and for mild rain in the northern coastal districts.

As high-speed winds at speeds of 40 to 50 kmph will blow in the Kanyakumari Ocean Region, fishermen have to be cautious. Strong winds are likely to bow in the northeastern direction until 10th January.

In the last 24 hours, a maximum of 9 cm rainfall has been recorded at Kollidam. Rainfalls recorded in other places in cm: Tindivanam – 7, Genji and Marakkanam – 6 each.

In the year 2020, Tamil Nadu has received more than average rainfall. The average expected this year was 946 mm and actually, 984 mm, rainfall has been received. This is 24% higher than the average. Through the northeast monsoon rainy season, there has been 6% excess received at 477 mm.

As regard district-wise rainfall, maximum rainfall of 45% of excess has been received at Villupuram, Thirupathur. Puducherry has received 40|% excess. Kanyakumari has received 39% lesser rainfall and Erode and Trichy, 30% lesser than average.”
