As the excess water is being let out from the Chembarambakkam Reservoir due to the present heavy downpour and excess inflow, the residents in the low-lyin areas in the areas Kanu Nagar, Soonaippalam, Dhideer Nagar, Amman Nagar, Burma Colony, Jaffarkhanpet, Kotturpuram, Chitra Nagar, and Adyar are strongly advised to move out immediately to the Relief Centres set up nearby!

In this tweet from news agency ANI, visuals of rainfall in Chennai, Tamil Nadu as the ‘very severe cyclonic storm’ approaches. Cyclone Nivar is expected to make a landfall just south of Chennai.
Chennai/Meenambakkam received 120 mm rainfall from 0830 hours yesterday till 0530 hours today, according to the IMD.

The Severe Cyclonic Storm NIVAR over southwest Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 6 kmph during past six hours and lay centred at 0230 hrs IST of 25th November, 2020 over southwest Bay of Bengal. It is very likely to intensify further into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm during the next 12 hours. It is very likely to cross Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mamallapuram during the night of 25th November as a very severe cyclonic storm with wind speed 120-130 kmph gusting to 145 kmph.
