Has the Department of School Education decided to extend the academic year by 3 more months?

With the issue of reopening of schools getting continuously delated/postponed with the prevailing coronavirus pandemic situation, the Department of School Education of the State Government of Tamil Nadu has decided to extend the current Academic Year (2020-21) until July.

The schools and colleges were closed in March following the imposition of lockdown as a preventive measure against the raging coronavirus pandemic. Currently, the pandemic situation has abated by a large extent and there are indications of the normal day-to-day life routine returning!

However, the reopening of schools and colleges has been kept postponed! Due to this, online classes are being conducted for the students. Lessons could not be taught as per the schedule followed in the academic year There is a situation where it is impossible to conduct the lessons as per syllabus in the period from June to April.

As such, the Department of School |Education of the State Government of Tamil Nadu has decided to extend the academic year by a further 3 months. In other terms, it has decided to extend the teaching session until July and then conduct the annual examination.

At the same time, giving due consideration to the students pursuing higher education and obtaining the explanations from the central government, the decision on the above will be announced as per the School education Departmental Circles.
