Complaints to police made easy - Patrol police vehicles turn into mobile police stations in Chennai

Posted on: 05/Nov/2020 9:20:38 AM
Gone are the days when the presence of police nearby would create huge fear on the public. The police personnel have become more public friendly now.

Chennai police commissioner, Mr. Mahesh Kumar Agarwal has been taking many steps to bring the police department closer to the public. The latest initiative is that of transforming the police patrol vehicles into mobile police stations in Chennai. By this, it would be possible for the police personnel to receive complaints from the public at the doorsteps itself.

For each of the 124 police stations in Chennai, there are now 4 patrol vehicles. For receiving complaints from the public, these patrol vehicles would stop from 11am to 1pm and then from 3pm to 5pm at designated places. It must be noted that by this initiative the police presence would get expanded on the streets. Another advantage is in place of 124 police stations there would be 372 police stations.

As per the commissioner of police, that complaint irrespective of their nature would be received by the police personnel and acknowledgement would be given to the public. For further action CSR or Community Service register would be generated.

By means of SMS, the same would be communicated to the complainant. Soon, the locations where the patrol vehicles would be parked would be announced to the public and the public could approach the police without any fear or hesitation. It is well known that Greater Chennai police is a division of TN police and is the law enforcement agency for Chennai.
