Information about the vegetables prices in Chennai

Last week, Chennai city witnessed heavy rains and it disrupted the lives of many. The heavy rains have also made the prices of the vegetables to go up due to the supply issues.

According to some vendors, the prices of the vegetables would be at 10ercent increase for atleast a week of time. Information is that the prices of onions have stabilised this week. This was due to regular shipments from Egypt. It has been brought out by Mr. P. Sukumaran, treasurer, Koyambedu Vegetable Markets Association that this week there would be a 10% increase in the prices of vegetables.

Truth is that based on the monsoon the prices would go up further higher in the week after that. It is now said that the prices of the vegetables would not come down but would increase or stabilise. One of the most sought out vegetables is beans and the prices would be Rs 50 per kg this week.

In this week, the price of brinjal is expected to increase to Rs 50 per kg. In Chennai, carrots are available in the range of Rs 70 to Rs 90 per kg. Point is tomatoes are available at Rs40 per kg. Small onions cost Rs 90 to Rs 100 per kg.

According to a vendor at Koyambedu, due to the rain and supply issues the prices of onions might go up. The price of onions now is between Rs 70 per kg and Rs 80 per kg and the rate would increase to Rs 100 in the upcoming week.
