The higher supply has now resulted in the reduction in the prices of the vegetables.

It has been mentioned by some vendors that the reopening of the Koyambedu market complex was responsible for the reduction in the vegetable rates by 20%.

Mr. P. Sukumaran, treasurer, Koyambedu Vegetable Merchants Association expressed his views on the decrease in vegetable prices now. He explained about how more produce has been received now and stores more now due to the facilities available at the market.

He added that this has been responsible for the dip in the prices of many vegetables by 20 percent. The prices of some vegetables have fallen by more than 30 percent too.

It is worth noting that more vendors have been able to put their shops at the Koyambedu market and this has led to more supply. Important information collected is that the price of beans would be Rs 50 this week and the prices of broad beans have fallen from Rs 45 per kg to Rs 30 to Rs 40 now.

In the last week, the prices of potatoes were Rs 35 to Rs 37 per kilogram and it has fallen to Rs 30 now. At present, tomatoes are available for Rs 30 to Rs 40. It is well known that the Koyambedu market would be open only for the wholesale purchases of more than 50 kilograms and the retail shops would be closed. It is now said that many vendors are hoping for full reopening of the market with safety measures for increasing the business profits.
