The ‘Self-financed Academic Fees Fixing Committee’ will be fixing the new fees for the academic year 2021-22.

There are 10585 private schools in the State of Tamil Nadu including private nursery schools, Matriculation Schools, and Matriculation High School. The academic fees for these schools for various classes are fixed by the Self-financed Academic Fees Fixing Committee once in 3 years.

The fees fixed by the above committee for the previous 3 year period concludes with the academic year 2019-20 for 5400 schools.

The State Government of Tamil Nadu is all set to fix the fee structure for 8220 schools including those who have not got approval and the school which are yet to fix the fee structure.

In this regard, the State Government of Tamil Nadu has already appointed a committee presided by the retired former Judge Balasubramaniam for fixing the school fees for private schools.

In order to fix the fee structure before 25th September, the private schools have been ordered by the State Government of Tamil Nadu to file the financial statements (incomes-expenditures).

So far, over 600 schools have applied for registration, and out of this, 300 schools have filed their financial status.

The Committee has advised that till the new fee structure is fixed, the old fee structure has to continue and then regularize these fees after the announcement of the new fee structure.

The Committee has further mentioned: “The parents can make a direct complaint to this committee regarding the schools which charge excessively high fees as compared to the fee structure fixed by the Committee/government. An enquiry will be conducted on the complaints received and in case it is established that the schools have asked for excessively high fees, action will be taken for the schools to repay the excess amount.

As regarding the number of installments for payment of the fees for this year, these schools have to follow the guidelines given by the Chennai High Court.”
