10% of Chennai population to be tested for Coronavirus infection in 2 weeks

Until 15th May 2020, GCC that began conducting RT-PCR tests had tested just 1.03 lakh samples
It must be noted that since this date the testing has increased 3 times and till now GCC has tested more than 5 lakh samples. It has been mentioned by Mr. G. Prakash, Chennai Corporation commissioner in another 2 weeks the civic body would have tested 10percent of the Chennai population. Point is this feat has been achieved by just few cities in the world
He spoke about how the people would have doubts about the ideal number of tests and how across the world testing 10% of the population was achieved by few cities. In the entire India, Chennai city has got the highest testing percentage.
In recent times in the Chennai city, the testing percentage has reached as high as 14,000 per day. Information gathered is as many as 10,943 were tested for Coronavirus infection in Chennai on Tuesday. In the last 20 days, 2 lakh samples of the total 5lakh odd drawn till date have been taken.
The focussed volunteers of GCC have been playing their part well in identifying up to 3500 people with symptoms per day and these persons have been taken to the fever clinics for testing. For the sake of identification and for isolation, GCC has formulated an action plan to test the traders plus works in the Chennai markets.
The Chennai Corporation commissioner later highlighted that expectant mothers have been tested compulsorily. He added that on average 700 persons get tested for Covid-19 infection every day.
Point is the testing would be intensified in the coming days. He concluded that the transmission of the infection could be brought down if the testing cycles are repeated 5times wherein the workers in the markets get identified and isolated.
