With the imposition of lockdown throughout the country as a preventive measure against the spread of the raging coronavirus pandemic, all schools have remained closed for the last 3 months. As such, the syllabus for the students of the 9th to 12th Standards has been reduced by 30%.

In a notification released by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), it has mentioned that mainly due to the globally prevailing uneasy situation due to the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, there was the necessity to reduce the syllabus with 1-term of the school classes gone.

It is mentioned that while retaining the essential/important features of the lessons in various subjects, it is decided to reduce the number of lessons.

It is emphasized that due to the spread of the raging coronavirus pandemic, and the schools have remained closed for a term, a decision has been taken to reduce the mental burden of the students in classes from 9th to 12th Standards for the academic year 2020-21.

CBSE has given the assurance that there would be no questions in the examinations on the lessons which have been taken off in the revised syllabus.

CBSE has further instructed the teachers to keep the students informed of all the details regarding the lessons taken off in the revised syllabus for the various subjects.

Earlier, the Central Minister for Human Welfare Ramesh Pokhriwal has tweeted on his Twitter page:

“Giving due consideration to the existing situation hugely affected by the raging coronavirus pandemic spread, a decision has been taken to reduce and revise the syllabus for the students studying in the classes of 9th Standard to 12th Standard. A few weeks earlier, suggestions were sought from the leading educational institutions in this regard given the status quo.  As such, 1500 suggestions were received as feedback. Keeping and giving due importance to the process of learning, it has been decided to retain all the important lessons in each subject and reduce the syllabus by 30% from the other sections.”
