More than 10,000 Coronavirus positive cases identified by the fever camps in Chennai

Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC has been conducting fever camps in all its zones is well known. These fever camps have identified more than 10,000 Coronavirus positive cases. It is believed that these fever camps have become one of the successful strategies for the control of Covid- 19 infection now in Chennai.

Between 8th May and 3rd July 2020, the fever camps from GCC have been able to identify as many as 35,211 persons with influenza like illness or ILI. This was as per the data from the Chennai Corporation. The officials have collected samples from 31,124 persons and sent them for Coronavirus testing. This was done from the total identified cases.

As many as 10,093 persons have tested positive for the Coronavirus infection and this was from the tested samples. It was revealed by the data that this corresponds to 28.7 percent of total ILI cases and 32 percent positivity among the tested samples.

For the purpose of identifying Coronavirus infected persons, fever camps were conducted in the slums and in the containment zones in the beginning. Point is the number of fever camps increased and to conduct these fever camps GCC appointed Unit Health Officers and Divisional Health officers.

Across the Chennai city, as many as 11,877 fever camps have been conducted from 8th May to 3rd July 2020 by the civic body. To check their health conditions, as many 7.72 lakh persons took part in these fever camps in Chennai.

A senior official belonging to GCC explained about the positivity rate being on the higher side due to focussed screening by the doctors and testing.  He added that fever camps are being organised in 500 locations in Chennai every day. More than 55% of samples taken from ILI cases in the Anna Nagar zone turned positive. This was also brought out by the data from GCC.
