The good news now is the hotspots belonging to the Chennai city are getting better as they have the lowest percentage of Coronavirus active cases.

It is well known that the Royapuram zone, Tondiarpet zone, and Teynampet sone are the worst affected by Covid-19 infection. These zones have the lowest percentage of active cases. This has been brought to light by data from the Chennai Corporation. Point is when compared to the total Corona positive cases recorded these above said 3 zones have less active cases now.

North Chennai based Royapuram zone has recorded as many as 8,506 positive cases and Teynampet zone has recorded as many as 7,017 cases. Tondiarpet zone has recorded 6,941 Coronavirus positive cases till now. Many persons belonging to these zones have recovered from the infection now. A month back, these 3 zones of GCC had a high percentage of active cases.

Focussed intervention from the beginning in these zones has played a huge role in reducing the active cases in these zones belonging to GCC. This was according to some officials belonging to the corporation.

A senior official later explained how zones like Royapuram and Tondiarpet have large slum populations and how if not controlled systematically from the beginning they would have recorded 1,000 cases per day.

Few days back, the Chennai Corporation commissioner brought out the importance of CIP or community intervention program in the slums in coordination with NGOs and the positive results achieved due to this program. He also gave an example of the Tondiarpet zone having 50% of the slum population. It must be noted that in the last 14 days just 10% of Coronavirus cases have been reported from the slums in this zone. Intense decongestion carried out in the Royapuram zone in June has yielded fruits and this was as per some zonal officials
