Chennai High Court: State Government cannot conduct SSLC Public Exam on 15th June!

Posted on: 08/Jun/2020 2:45:24 PM
Chennai High Court raised the important question of why the State Government of Tamil Nadu is interested in conducting the 10th Standard Public Examinations from 15th June And gave the verdict that 10th STANDARD PUBLIC EXAMINATION MUST NOT BE CONDUCTED AS PLANNED!

Having raised the question of the State Government’s unusual interest in conducting the 10th Standard Public Examinations as scheduled on 15th June, the Chennai High Court asked the government’s opinion on this and adjourned the enquiry session until 2.30 PM today (Monday, 8th June).

As per the petition filed by the President of the Tamil Nadu Higher and Higher Secondary schools Teachers’’ Association, Bhakthavatsalam, it is mentioned:

‘The State Government of Tamil Nadu had announced that the Public Examinations for the 10th Standard will be conducted from 15th June. 979000 students will be writing these examinations. Further, as regards the 11th Standard Public Examinations, 841000 students will be writing. As regards the 12th Standard, 36089 students who could not write the public examinations already conducted due to the lockdown imposition will be writing.

Further, 387623 teachers and 2243000 non-teacher staff are to be deployed in schools where the public examinations are set to be conducted.

In this regard, the State Government of Tamil Nadu has proceeded to conduct these examinations without considering the physical health of the lakhs of students and teachers.

So, the 10th Standard Public Examinations which are to be conducted from 15th June MUST BE CANCELLED! The High Court should order the State Government of Tamil Nadu by another 2 weeks.’

Judges Vineeth Kothari and R. Suresh Kumar conducted the enquiry through video-network. They announced that the scheduled examinations must not be conducted. The risk of the lives of 9 Lakhs students MUST NOT BE UNDERTAKEN! These public examinations can be conducted only after the intensity/impact of the raging coronavirus gets reduced! The judges adjourned the enquiry to 2.30 PM seeking the reaction of the government to the proposal to schedule these examinations by the 2nd week of July.

Further, the judges clarified that if no reply is received before 2.30 PM, the examinations WILL NOT BE ALLOWED to be conducted!

Earlier, the Chennai High Court had raised several pertinent questions regarding the risk being taken by the government on the health of the teachers and the students. This issue concerns the lives and welfare of the students. The court raised the question: ‘Is it that the government thinks it is worth conducting the examinations during the lockdown imposition?

With the c central government’s stand that the reopening of the schools may be considered and decided in July, how is it the Tamil Nadu Government is bypassing this stand and conducting examinations in June? How can the state government of Tamil Nadu undertake such a risk?

The judges have further raised the question as to what decision has been taken regarding this issue after the meeting/discussion between the State School Education Minister Sengottaiyan and the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, E. Palaniswamy.
