Expansion of e-bike service facility in Metro Stations: CMRL

An official from MRTS informed that reviews are underway to facilitate the expansion of the existing e-bike services.

For the benefit of CMRL passengers, CMRL has set up share-auto services in 7 stations, share-taxi services in 5 stations, and transport link facility in 15 stations.

Further, CMRL launched the e-bike services last January in 6 Metro Stations Guindy, Alandur, Vadapalani, Nandanam, Little Mount, and Anna Nagar.

CMRL administration organises this service jointly with 2 other companies VoGo and Fly. A charge of Re. 1 per minute is collected for this service.

In this scenario, as there has been a huge popular response from the public for this service, a review has been taken up by CMRL regarding the introduction of this facility in more stations, as shared by a CMRL official.

He further shared: ‘Over 200 passengers per day have been using this facility which has been provided in 6 Metro stations. Especially, as the charge of Re. 1 is extremely reasonable and well-affordable, there has been a huge popular response for this service from the passengers.

CMRL administration has planned to expand this e-bike services in other stations apart from the represent Guindy, Alandur, Vadapalani, Nandanam, Chinnamalai, and Anna Nagar. The officials are reviewing the expansion scheme as to in which stations this facility is to be extended.

Further, a review is also being carried out as to up to what distance the e-bike services are to be allowed and also the locations for e-bike stops. Extensive data have been collected at especially 2 stations Central and DMS for this review. 

Also, it is planned to double the number of e-bikes in the stations where it is presently available!
