TNPSC: To fill 972 vacant posts in GCC no direct appointment!

Information is gathered that TNPSC has decided to fill up the 972 vacant posts in Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC).
More than 5000 employees are working in the GCC in over 10 Departments.
Generally, all the posts, except Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner and Regional Assistant Commissioner are filled up with direct appointments or promotions.
Accordingly, approval was obtained in the year 2015 to fill up the 805 different vacant posts including Assistant Law Officer, Assistant Medical Officer, and Assistants.
Out of this, an announcement was released for filling up 137 posts including Assistant Engineer and Health Inspector.
Accordingly, applications were received. Examinations were conducted. With the selection of candidates just being ready, GCC announced that the examination results were withheld due to administrative reasons. As of today, the results of these examinations are yet to be announced.
In this scenario, where the results have been withheld over the last 4 years, information has now been gathered that Greater Chennai Corporation has decided to fill up these vacancies including the above-withheld results through Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC).
Out of the 805 posts where the direct appointment was approved, GCC has sent the request to the Tamil Nadu State Government to approve 62 Medical Officers through TNPSC.
Further, some changes are to be carried out in the rules and regulations for the appointment of Assistant health Officer Post.
So, leaving aside these 71 vacant posts, approval has been sought from the state government to fill up all other posts through TNPSC.
As above, apart from the existing 652 vacant posts in GCC, some more vacancies are expected in the next few months and hence state government approval has been sought to fill up a total of 972 posts through TNPSC.
As per this, it is gathered that 98 Assistant Engineers, 10 Assistant Law Officers, 83 Ownership inspectors, 53 typists, 35 wire-men, 100 Assistants, 127 cleanliness inspectors, 110 maternity Assistants, and 41 health Inspectors are to be filled up through Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission.
