Chennai roads to be patched up by pothole fixer

Posted on: 11/Feb/2020 9:59:00 AM
The presence of many potholes on the roads in Chennai has been creating many issues for the public. The latest news is as many as 6 machines have been purchased by the Highways Department and it also included a pot fixer and these would be used on the Chennai roads.

Blue metal and bitumen would be carried by the pothole fixer and then these two would be mixed and laid on the roads.

An official source belonging to the department of Highways spoke about how the spot (to be repaired) on the road would be cleaned and then the machine would pour liquid bitumen emulsion on the area to be patched up. In the next step, bitumen and blue metal that has been mixed in the machine would be poured into the pothole.

The surface would be flattened by a roller later. Normally bitumen would be heated and then macadam mix would be made at a central asphalt plant. It must be noted that this is a mobile plant and it would be able to do the job faster.

The official pointed out that the contractors would not want to repair small patches on the roads. He explained about the drawback of the asphalt plant and said it does not operate all the time and various departments have to wait for the macadam mix. Many agencies such as power lines, waterlines, internet cables and telephone lines etc damage the roads and the machine would be used to restore the road cuts.
