For the sake of reducing capital and maintenance expenditure, Chennai Corporation has planned to stop converting OSR or Open Space Reserve Lands to conventional parks in Chennai city.

It is now said that the corporation of Chennai would develop dense urban forests on these OSR lands by using the Japan-based Miyawaki method. In the Anna Nagar zone near Koyambedu grade separator, work on the first OSR land to be converted into the dense urban forest would be taken up.

Instructions were given by the Chennai corporation commissioner Mr G. Prakash to the officials of Anna Nagar Zone for developing the OSR land measuring 4.08 acres in Koyambedu near V.R. Mall into a dense urban forest. An official later mentioned that more than 48000 trees would be planted in the dense urban forest near V.R. Hall. Ozone projects had handed over the OSR land to meet OSR land requirements.

It was on 8th May 2018 OSR land was handed over to Ozone project for one year for the development of the park. The truth is the time period for the creation and maintenance of the park was over for the developer.  It was instructed by MR. G. Prakash not to renew the permission given earlier to the developer for maintenance of the park. The dense urban forest in each area must be unique with the selection of indigenous species and this was as per the Chennai corporation commissioner.

In another 5 years of time, the dense urban forest would be developed on the OSR lands in each neighbourhood. This would reduce pollution to a huge extent. Superb!!
