Mandalabhishekham commences at Thanjavur Big Temple!

After the grand completion of the consecration ceremony at the Thanjavur Big Temple, the next ceremony of ‘Mandalabhishekham’ commenced at the temple from yesterday (Thursday, 6th February).

Due to the special traditional occasion of Tamil calendar month ‘Chithirai’ Brahmotsavam festival, the ceremony of ‘Madanabhishekham’ has been reduced to 24 days.

The holy consecration of the world-famous Thanjavur Big Temple was performed in a grand manner day-before-yesterday (5th September).  More than 5 Lakhs devotees participated in this holy occasion.

Subsequently, the ceremony of ‘Mandalabhishekham’ commenced yesterday (Thursday, 6th February). Traditionally, Mandalabhishekham is performed for 48 days.

However, as the special ‘Chithirai Brahmotsavam’ is scheduled and the initial arrangements for ceremonies such as ‘Pandakkal installation, have to be started for the same, tying of the holy rope), the temple Sivacharys informed that the ceremony of Mandalabhishekham has been reduced to 24 days.

As ‘Paalaalayam’ ceremony had been performed on the occasion of consecration (Kumbhabhshekham) of the Big temple, the ceremony of Pradosham was not performed.

With the completion of the consecration ceremony, Pradosham was performed yesterday evening (Thursday, 6th February). On this occasion, Abhishekham was performed for the Nandhi Bhagawan. Thousands of devotees participated on this occasion and prayed and had Darshan of the Lord.

Special Poojas were performed for the deities of Lord Murugan with His Consorts Valli and Deivayanai, Lord Vinayakar, Lord Peruvudaiya, His Consort, and  Raja Raja Chozhan, his consort Ulagamahadevi, and Rajendra Chozhan and then, Maha Deeparadhanai was performed.

The deities were taken on a procession on different holy carriages on a procession offering Darshan to the gathering of devotees along the royal corridors of the Big Temple.

Subsequently, cultural programmes were performed with musical instruments such as Thappattam, Oyilattam, Devarattam, and Karagattam, etc., with the playing of Thavils and Mirudhangams with the music by the ‘Sivaganangal’!
