AICTE announcement - Deemed universities, autonomous colleges to have faculty student ratio 1:15

Posted on: 07/Feb/2020 10:18:31 AM
For deemed universities, autonomous colleges and accredited engineering colleges, AICTE or All India Council for Technical Education has fixed faculty-student ratio of 1:15 now. On Wednesday, the approval handbook for 2020-21 was released is known.  It is now said that this move by AICTE is expected to increase the demand of faculty in TN.

It must not be forgotten that in 2018-19 AICTE diluted the 1:15 faculty- student ratio to 1:20. This has resulted in more than 22000 faculty members losing their jobs. There are many teachers from TN who are employed in states like AP, Karnataka etc.

It was revealed by a senior AICTE official that deemed universities and autonomous colleges were not same as other institutions. Special status was given to these to provide quality education for the students. It is important that these deemed universities and autonomous colleges must make sure that the faculty - student ratio is 1:15.

The faculty members were of the view that the decision to relax faculty-student ratio for PG courses from 1:12 to 1:15 might not have any effect.  Point here is PG admissions have come down and many faculty members have been issued pink slip. Sixty percent of the courses of the technical institutions must be accredited in the next 3 years. Information is AICTE has asked the expert committee t ensure faculty availability and by the annual salary paid statements in addition t their physical availability.

Founder of All India Private Colleges Employees Union, Mr. K.M. Karthik explained that the new faculty-students ratio would reduce unemployment.
