Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) undertakes the responsibility of all selection procedures and appointments for the various vacant posts arising in the different departments of Tamil Nadu State Government.

For most of the recruitments, qualifying examinations are conducted by TNPSC and based on the performance in these tests, the candidates are called for interview and further assessment.

However, TNPSC has been receiving complaints regarding maloperations in the examinations conducted. In order to prevent any such maloperations, TNPSC has announced a new set of rules and regulations while applying for writing the Examinations.

TNPSC conducted the examinations for Group-4 category appointments on 1st September 2019. 16,29,865 candidates wrote the examinations in 5575 examination centres throughout Tamil Nadu.

This group-4 examination was conducted for the recruitment for the posts of Village Administrative Officer, Junior Assistant, Land Surveyor, typists, etc, The results of the Group-4 Examination were announced on 25th November 2019.

According to the results, it was gathered that among the top 100 candidates as per performance, 40 candidates were found to have written the Group-4 examination from the Rameswaram and Keezhakkarai centres. This created a sensation among the related circles!

Many candidates belonging to other districts had written the examination in the above 2 ce3ntres. A majority of the outside district candidates were from Sivagangai district. Subsequently, the other candidates registered their complaint that there have been some maloperations in conducting the examination.

Based on this complaint, it was decided to call the candidates from other districts that wrote the Group-4 examination in Rameswaram and Keezhakkarai centres and conduct an enquiry.

This enquiry was conducted on 13th January and it prolonged till the next day. As per this, it was established that the candidates from the outside districts who wrote the examinations had given identical answers in the enquiry!

When the candidates were enquired why they selected an unconnected centre for writing the examination, the candidates gave and the explanation that they had visited Rameswaram temple to perform the post-death rites for their ancestors and at the same time, to write the examination as well. As most of the candidates gave identical replies, the officials who conducted the enquiry was rather confused and amused.

Subsequently, information was gathered that as per the review meeting later, a revised ‘Merit/rank List’ was to be released on this accord.

Further, it is also gathered that the officials have planned to conduct a police enquiry on the above candidates from other districts who wrote the Group-4 Examination in the Rameswaram and Keezhakkarai centres. However, TNPSC has not conveyed anything on this front so far!

In this scenario, TNPSC had recently released the announcement for conducting Group-1 examinations. A new procedure has been adopted to fill the application to write this Group-1 examination.

In this revised application, a question has been asked to the candidates who had selected to write the examination from a different district other than their own native district. The candidates have to give the reason while answering this question.

TNPSC opines that with the above change in the applying procedure, the maloperations detailed above can be prevented!
