Lunar Eclipse (Chandra Grahan) Today

Posted on: 10/Jan/2020 11:02:49 AM
A lunar eclipse is set to occur on Friday (10th January). This lunar eclipse (Chandra Grahan in Indian languages) is known as ‘penumbral’ eclipse.

During the Penumbral lunar eclipse, Earth blocks parts of the sun`s light from reaching the moon`s surface and covers all or a portion of the moon with the outer part of its shadow.

A penumbral lunar eclipse takes place when the three celestial bodies namely the Sun, the Earth, and the Moon are not perfectly aligned. People residing in India would be able to witness the first lunar eclipse of 2020.

The Penumbral eclipse would begin on January 10 at 10:37 pm and end on January 11 at 2:42 am in India.

This lunar eclipse of January 10 is also being called Wolf Moon eclipse. This will be the first of the four Penumbral lunar eclipses expected to occur this year.
