Chennai roads witness illegal bike racing once again

Illegal bike racing is prohibited on the public roads in Chennai.
On Christmas Eve, Chennai city police began cracking down of illegal bike racing on the city arterial roads. Shocking information is as many as 158 persons were booked for speeding and 63 vehicles were seized. Police personnel have mentioned that the drive against illegal bike racing would continue till New Year Eve.
Few months back, a young man lost his life in bike racing in Chennai and this led to Chennai city police in cracking down and apprehending as many as 21 individuals.
This illegal bike racing issue has reared once again now. It must be taken into account that important streets like Kamarajar Salai or beach road and Dr Radhakrishnan Salai had this illegal bike racing and this happened at a time when the policemen were making huge efforts to ensure peaceful celebrations in the churches etc. Important information gathered is on the GST Road, Sardar Patel Road and on few arterial roads in Chennai many were riding high-end bikes after midnight in a rash manner.
Information regarding illegal bike racing was conveyed to the police personnel and at that time the policemen were involved in the smooth conduct of Christmas festivities. This was revealed by Mr Deshmukh Sekar Sanjay, DC of police, Mylapore. He added that the police personnel were alerted and the crackdown was done by the police.
It must be noted that the bike racers were not only causing nuisance and endangering their lives but also creating issues to others. The DC of police revealed that most bike racers caught were college students and some were working. Mr Sanjay later highlighted that parents must keep an eye on their young wards and stops them from taking part in illegal bike racing etc. Under sections 336 and 279, cases were filed against the illegal bike racers.
