Ambattur railway station crowded due to lack of feeder services at the neighboring stations

Posted on: 14/Nov/2019 10:04:03 AM
Instead of getting down at the railway stations in Pattaravakkam and Korattur that are much closer to the software firms and industries at Ambattur IT Park and Anna Nagar, many commuters are forced to get down at the Ambattur railway station itself. This is due to the absence of feeder services to Ambattur IT parks and Anna Nagar at the Pattaravakkam and Korattur stations.

It must be noted that the MTC services are available frequently along the CTH Road (walking distance from Ambattur). The information is the commuters need to rely on the autos present at the neighbouring railway stations.

Mr Venkatesh, who manages manpower services in an IT firm in Ambattur spoke about how people avoid Pattaravakkam and Korattur railway stations due to lack of feeder services and how this has been causing heavy congestion at the Ambattur railway station.

Information collected is Ambattur records sale of 5000 train tickets every month whereas Pattaravakkam and Korattur railway stations issue an average of 2500 and 3000 tickets. The point is patronage at the railway station would be at least 4 times higher than the number of tickets sold.

It is worthy to note that the patronage of IT employees to Pattravakkam has been on the rise as the tickets sold have increased by 400 a month in the last 1 year of time.

The distance between the Ambattur railway station and the IT parks at Ambattur is 4 km which is 1 km less from Pattaravakkam. It is revealed that the people could reach Ambattur Industrial estate in less amount of time from Pattaravakkam and Korattur railway stations when compared with Ambattur railway station. This is due to heavy traffic along CTH Road.

To get an MTC bus, the passengers would have to walk 2 km from Pattaravakkam railway station. There is an MTC bus stand at the Korattur railway station and this does not have frequent services to places like Ambattur industrial estate, Mogappair and Anna Nagar etc.

Many people come to Anna Nagar for their work and for the benefit of these people MTC must operate more buses from Korattur and Villivakkam railway stations. This was according to a resident belonging to Anna Nagar.
