Gut includes mouth, oesophagus, stomach and the intestines. It is also called as gastrointestinal tract or GI or alimentary canal and it is an organ system present in the humans and in the animals. It must be noted that gut takes in food digests the food to extract and absorb energy and nutrients. The remaining food is expelled as waste is known.

It is necessary that we must maintain the heath of the gut to be free from many health issues. Our poor gut health could be due to use of antibiotics, consumption of certain foods having sugars etc, increased levels of hormones etc

There are few side effects of having poor gut health.

Bad breath:
It is known that bad breathe could be due to factors like intake of certain foods, poor oral hygiene etc. Not many know that bad breath could be due to poor gut health also. The point to be noted is unhealthy gut could also be the reason because the microbes in the gut could lead to mouth odour.

Sugar cravings more:
It must be taken into account that an imbalance in gut flora might be due to yeast or fungi as they need sugar to survive. Point is poor gut could result in sudden craving for the sweet.

Insomnia:
Most of us would relate lack of sleep or insomnia to stress, anxiety etc. It is important to mention that insomnia could occur in us due to poor gut heath too. Research study has revealed that microbiome has strong links to circadium rhythms. The issue of insomnia would be there till the gut issues get treated.

Stomach issues:
We could get issues like bloating, gas, constipation etc due to poor gut health or unhealthy gut. It must be noted that a balanced gut would have less issues in processing food and eliminating wastes.

Mental health issues:
This is also one important side effects of poor gut health. When there is change in the gut flora, then we could experience anxiety, stress etc.  

Leads to poor immunity in us:
It must be noted that healthy gut bacteria could make the immune system to function well and we could be free from the diseases and infections. When there is imbalance, we could get infected by diseases etc very easily. It has been revealed by clinical as well as by pre clinical studies that gut microbiome plays an important role in the development of the immune system.
