3-terms textbook for 8th Standard to be a single textbook from the next academic year!

A government order has been issued to print the 8th Standard textbooks for the subjects as a single full book.

The General (Common) education system was introduced in the year 2010.

This ‘3-terms’ per academic year system was introduced in the 1st Phase for the primary classes and then was gradually implemented at 1-standard at a time. Accordingly, the textbooks were printed in 3 sections separately on a term basis (the syllabus to be covered during each of the 1st, 2nd, and the 3rd terms. As such, 3 books were issued for each subject.

In this situation, the central government has decided to introduce public examination for the 5th and the 8th standard students. So, the state government of Tamil Nadu has decided to print the textbooks as a single book.

A press notification released in this regard mentions:

‘A 3-terms’ system was introduced in all the schools from 1st Standard to the 5th Standard in the year 2012. In the next year, it was introduced for the 9th and 10th Standard. In this situation, the central government decided to introduce the Public Examination System for the 5th Standard and 8th Standard as per the Right To Education Act.

So, the Director of the State Education Research and Training Corporation wrote a letter to the State a Government of Tamil Nadu that it would be better to print the textbooks for the 8th Standard as a single book covering the prescribed syllabus.

After reviewing this letter, the state government of Tamil Nadu has issued approval to the Director of the State Education Research and Training Corporation to print the textbook for the 8th Standard as a single book from the academic year 2020-21.’

This notification has been conveyed by the Chief Secretary of the Department of School Education Pradeep Yadav.

Subsequently, the textbook for the 8th Standard will be printed as a single text covering the syllabus from the next academic year.
