Following the recent high pollution in Delhi, it has been established that there has been a substantial increase in the harmful particles polluting the air in the Chennai Metro City as well!

The Air Pollution Monitoring Centre has informed that the air quality index in Chennai has reached a high level rendering the air unfit for breathing.

The air quality index should be 100 points to be fir for breathing. However, as on today (Wednesday, 6th November) morning, the quality Index of air read as follows: Manali - 290, Kodungaiyur - 319, Anna Nagar - 301, Aalandur - 218, Velacherry - 252, the US Consulate - 165.

In this scenario, several private weather monitors have conveyed that this is a reflection/echo of the impact of the extreme pollution presently encountered in Delhi and North India.

However, the director of the Chennai Meteorological Centre, Puviyarasan, has denied this and asserted that this is only smog.
