When deepavali is nearing, can shopping in T. Nagar be far way?
On Sunday, many residents of Chennai shopped for deepavali in T. Nagar. It is now said that the Chennai people are not loosening their purse strings for this upcoming deepavali.
Lower or mid section of the price spectrum was preferred by many people and this was as per the businessmen.
As per Mr. Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetty, owner of highly famous Nalli Silks, every year many new collections get launched. He added that in this year the average purchase value of silk saris was about Rs 10000 to Rs 12000 when compared to Rs 25000 in the last few years of time. The shocking information is in this 2019 overall sales have dropped and this was the first time ever since 1998 the sales have dropped. This was also confirmed by the Nalli Silks owner.
It was mentioned by Mr. Ravindran, GM of Chennai Silks that low budget purchase by the people of Chennai was not just in silk saris alone. He spoke about how he had predicted that this year’s deepavali to be tepid and launched low price collections in linen. He revealed that brisk sales could be seen in the Rs 900 to Rs 1100 range against Rs 2000.
As per Mr. Ananthapadmanabhan, MD of NAC jewellers, it is clear that jewellers dealing with 20% hike in the price since 2018 have a variety of fashionable and traditional light weight collections. He added that the prices are going down now and how it is not enough for the customers to make costly purchases.
It must be taken into account that by 4pm in the evening crowds thronged many multi-storeyed shops in North Usman Road in T. Nagar. This resulted in heavy traffic congestion there. There was no parking space available even for the two wheelers also.
A mechanic belonging to Perungudi expressed his thoughts and spoke about how huge numbers of people visit T. Nagar every year for shopping and how the shops have variety and give discounts. He shed light on the spirit of deepavali shopping.
