Posted on: 09/Oct/2019 10:09:00 AM
One of the important places in Chennai is Burkit Road in T. Nagar and this Burkit Road would soon get facelift just like Sir Theyagaraya Road near Pondy Bazaar, G.N. Chetty Road and Venkatnarayana Road in T. Nagar.

It must be noted that the smart city works have been nearing completion in the above 3 roads and GCC would have begun work for smart street development on Burkit Road.

The superb information is tentative designs for the project were ready and tenders have been invited. It was later pointed out by a senior corporation official that project would include ducting of underground cables, upgrading footpaths and parking facilities among others. An official spoke about how they would make sure that stormwater drains were well minted and pipe ducting would be provided for electricity cables. It must be noted that the footpaths would be re-designed and laid over these drains plus the roadside trees would be provided with tree guards.

Information collected is the footpaths would be redesigned in a way that it would also have demarcated spaces for parking to streamline traffic movement.  It is known that the redesigning projects at Venkatnarayana Road and GM. Chetty road was taken up at a cost of Rs 18 crores and Rs 9 crores respectively. It is now said that the civic body has inverted tenders for the Burkit Road project at a cost of Rs 5 crores.

Burkit Road is a one km long road that connects Venkatnarayana Road and T. Nagar bus terminus junction. The point is the smart roads would be both pedestrian-friendly as well as friendly for those having physical issues. By taking into consideration all the stakeholders, the redesigning of road would be carried out.

A superb piece of information is the officials are now in talks so that advanced parking management system could be implemented on these smart roads. By this, the vehicle owners would be able to know in advance by their mobile apps whether parking space would be available to them or not. People would be surprised to see more trees, clear signboards and benches along the footpaths on these smart roads.
