Posted on: 24/Sep/2019 5:41:41 PM
With the recent import of 120 truckloads of onion from the states of Karnataka and Andhra, the price of onion crashed in the Chennai Koyambedu wholesale vegetable market by Rs. 30 per kg and onion was sold at Rs. 40 per kg.

Generally, large quantities are transported from the states of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh to the Chennai Koyambedu wholesale vegetable market.

However, due to recent heavy rains in these states, the growth/yield of onion was greatly affected. So, the normally transported quantity of onions from these state came down. As a result, the price of onion shot up to Rs. 70 per kg.

In this situation, in a single day yesterday, 120 truckloads of onion were transported from the states of Andhra and Karnataka to the Chennai Koyambedu wholesale vegetable market.

Subsequently, the price of onion reduced to Rs. 40 per kg.

As the neighboring states have realized the huge demand for onion in the Chennai Koyambedu wholesale vegetable market where it can be sold profitably, the transporting of onion has further increased! So, there are prospects of the onion price coming down even further!
