Many road accidents take place due to over speeding of the vehicles. It is now said that the state government has directed transport vehicle owners and drivers to fix speed governors whenever the vehicle is plying on the road.  The vehicle must be driven with allowable seating capacity to ensure safe drive.

On Tuesday, the transport commissioner mentioned about how most road accidents in TN take place due to over speeding plus also due to over loading of persons in passenger and goods vehicles. It is revealed that suspension of driving licences for not less than 3 months is being strictly enforced now.

Many complaints were received regarding over speeding by stage carriers, mini buses, share autos, educational institutions vehicles and overloading of passengers etc. As per the notification issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways dated 4th April 2015, speed governors are being fitted in the vehicles. Action would be taken on the permits if the vehicles were found without speed governors or inactive speed governors at a time when FC is issued to the vehicles.

It is mentioned that as per section 183 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 whoever drives a vehicle violating the speed limit shall be punishable with a fine that might go up to Rs 400. A fine amount of Rs 1000 would be collected from the violator if the violator has been previously convicted for the same offence.

It is said that fine amount that might extend up to Rs 300 would be collected from those who cause any person employed by him or his subject to his control in driving, to drive a motor vehicle in contravention of the speed limit referral in section 112 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988. For the second offence, fine amount might extend to Rs 500.
