Derailment affects MRTS services in Chennai affects many office-goers

Many office goers in Chennai travel by MRTS as they find it very comfortable and time saving. The latest news is on Monday derailment of EMU or Electrical Multiple Unit train had created issues for many office goers. It must be taken into account that a large number of office goers bound for Velachery railway station were stranded at the Chennai beach railway station due to the derailment of EMU train.
There was disruption of more than 10 suburban train services between Chennai Beach and Velachery railway stations on both sides. This disruption was because of the derailment of EMU on the MRTS or Mass Rapid Transit System section. For more than 2 hours, the suburban train services were affected. It is worthy to mention that usually early morning services run full towards Velachery with passengers arriving from the Puratchi Thalaivar Dr.MGR Chennai Central railway station and office goers bound for Tidel Park in Tiruvanmiyur.
It was later pointed out by a regular commuter from Triplicane that he reached his office located at Tidel Park late by more than one hour. Information is trains from both the directions were stopped and once when the services resumed after 7:50 am trains from Chennai Beach were packed to capacity. An empty EMU while being shunted towards the entry points of track 7 and 8 derailed and this led to the stoppage of the trains from both the directions. This was according to a senior official belonging to the southern railways.
Important point to be noted is normally in the morning hours of time train services are limited on the Beach -Velachery route and this is different to the Tambaram - Beach route that has more train services. The rakes got derailed around 6 am in the morning and were put back on track within one and half hours and train services resumed. This was according to an official.
The normalcy on the MRTS sector was brought back only by 10 am in the morning. The superb piece of information is to ease congestion and to compensate for the stoppage of trains as many as 10 special services were operated by the Chennai division.
