No food and water in this Madras Universitys women hostel now

Few days back, MU or Madras University’s Mother Teresa Hostel for Women in Chepauk, Chennai closed its mess. The news is the students are without proper food now. It was mentioned by a second year student that for a week the students were not getting proper food in the mess and 3 days back the authorities have closed down the mess.
It is now brought out that the students were asked to make their own arrangements until a new contractor takes over. Point to be noted is the water supply has been irregular and the students are forced to buy drinking water cans. A student spoke about how the authorities have purchased new water cooler just 5 months back and how the cooler did not work even for a month. The shocking piece of information is only 4 times in a week water is received by the students. The student shed light on how the campus has become unhygienic due to scant water supply.
Metro water had stopped supplying water to the hostel every day and this was according to the hostel warden Vaneetha Agarwal. She added that finding a new contractor for the hostel mess has been very difficult and by Monday or Tuesday it would be finalised. It must not be forgotten that in the month of February this women hostel grabbed many eyeballs when poor living conditions of the hostel was exposed. The State Human Rights Commission directed the authorities to refurbish the hostel is known. Presently, this hostel is undergoing renovation and new first year students are not admitted to the hostel by the authorities.
The hostel warden Vaneetha spoke about how the facilities are inadequate now and how the admission of the students to the hostel would start once renovation work gets over. There is another MU run hostel at Taramani and the new students would move to this hostel.
Information collected is few days back T. Sumathi, warden of this hostel in Taramani wrote letters to all the departments requesting them not to send more number of students as all the rooms were full. Vice-chancellor of MU, Mr. Duraisamy, spoke about how amount of Rs 15lakhs is being spent for the purpose of renovation of the Chepauk hostel. He added that an alternative arrangement for providing accommodation is also being worked out now for the first year students. It is known that MU came into existence in the year 1857 and is one of the oldest universities in India.
