AICTE CEO: 80 engineering colleges closed throughout India last year!

The CEO of AITEC (All India Technical Education Council) Anil Sahasrabudhe informed that 80 engineering colleges had been closed throughout the country in the last academic year attributed to the principal reason that there were no admissions.
Anil Sahsrabudhe was participating on the occasion when ‘Hackathon’ event was conducted and had an open session with the boys and girls students. Subsequently, he shared with the press:
‘The central government has given extra importance to research and development and inventions/discoveries. Whereas India was in the 85th place among international inventions 4 years ago, during the last 4 years, India has advanced to the 57th place.
The central government, various technical organisations, and academic institutions offer financial assistance to the inventions/discoveries which find the best solutions to some of the problems. This financial assistance, however, will vary depending on the nature of the problems taken up for finding solutions. It is worth noting here that several solutions which were taken up last year have been implemented successfully.
The ‘Hackathon’ (also known as a hack day, hackfest or codefest) is a design sprint-like event in which computer programmers and others involved in software development, including graphic designers, interface designers, project managers, and others, often including domain experts, collaborate intensively on software.
These Hackathon events facilitate the academic institutions, technical organisations, and industries to converge together and also seek suggestions/advice.
The All India Technical Education Council (AITEC) has approved for a new 2-year academic course for the researcher4s and entrepreneurs. These courses will facilitate and encourage new inventions and associated activities.
Due to the main attribute that there is an acute shortfall in infrastructure and associated facilities, leading to very less number of students joining, 80 engineering colleges have been closed throughout India in the last academic year.
At the same time, it must be noted that overall, there is a trend of considerable reduction in the number of students opting for engineering courses. Last, the admission of students was lesser by 80000 as compared to previous years. This may not lead to the conclusion that the quality of technical education has come down drastically. Paradoxically, though one aspect there is a trend of the closure of colleges with a reduction in the number of students joining engineering courses, on the other side, new engineering colleges have also been started!
AITEC has been closely monitoring regarding the engineering colleges which function with very low quality. In order to streamamline the academic fees structure in all engineering colleges, a special committee has been formed in each state to streamline the fess structure.
Reviews and consultations were conducted whether it is worthwhile to conduct an All India Entrance Examination for admission to engineering courses as practised with NEET for joining medical courses.
However, only after the proposed changes in the CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) is implemented In schools, the central government is likely to take up the issue of a common country-wide test for admission to engineering courses just like NEET for medical courses. As such, there are no possibilities for such a kind of NEET for engineering courses to be conducted at least in the next 2 years!’
